What I learned:

A podcast host once asked me a question that threw me for a loop:

"Mike, if you could have a beer or coffee with anyone over the last hundred years — alive or dead — who would you pick??"

To buy time, I made a light joke about “whether it was beer or coffee.”

As if the beverage mattered.

Names hit me like ticker tape on a cable news show:

Steve Jobs, Einstein, Lincoln, FDR, Naval, JFK, DeLonge, David Gilmour.

It was a lightning round.

Five seconds of live air.

I gave an answer.

Moved on.

But a gnawing suspicion stayed with me..

I'd missed someone.

Someone else should have been my pick…

Five days and a Sunday drive later

It came to me.

I knew exactly who I should have said.

The person I'd pick to have dinner with is

…. me.

Just 20 years earlier.

Scott Galloway writes that “the one person we most wish we could give our money, advice, wisdom to is our past self — especially those of us who grew up with less.

I can't go back and fix my personal and professional mistakes.

But I can choose what I do with them.

After years in medical and dental sales, I've watched a lot of good people fail.

Not because they lacked talent, but because nobody ever handed them a map. (*I’m raising my hand)

They took “a sales job” because they needed to make ends meet, or wanted something better, or just stumbled into it. And then it was product training and sink or swim.

No framework.

No guide.

No identity.

Just go.

So I spent the last few years writing it down, and the last few months putting it all together.

The Sales Ascent is my step-by-step framework for field B2B sales reps to build real selling acumen faster, with more confidence, and with a clear path forward.

I ran my first workshop with it last week.

The response told me what I needed to know:

These are the lessons I would have had with myself, and others value them.

Now it's a published book, available on Amazon.
